Small Group Life

At Anchorage Baptist Temple, our dream is to help every person find a place where they feel accepted, encouraged, and loved as they fulfill their life by entering into an intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ and an understanding of His purpose for their life.

A Small Group is a gathering of certain people on a regular basis who are active in their individual and collective pursuit of complete devotion to Christ and are assisted by a leader who can help them realize their purpose.

Small Group Characteristics:

Small Group Location – Meetings occur at different locations within a city, region, or town.

Small Group Affinity – Groups can be comprised of individuals who share affinities, such as activities, age, areas of service, gender, hobbies, life events, marital stage, or work.

Small Groups: Creating Community with a Cause

  • Transformation – “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…” Phil. 2:5

an atmosphere of accountability, mutual submission, and spiritual growth so that every person, seekers and believers, becomes more like Christ.

  • Community – “Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,  not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another…”  Hebrews 10:24 – 25 NASB

…an environment of genuine love and transparency so that every member feels free to enter into relationships where they are accepted, challenged, loved, and respected.

  • Compassion – “…the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, Who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”  1 Corinthians 1: 3 – 4 NASB

…an attitude of love and compassion frames the group and is exhibited by those who  have experienced it first hand so that seekers and believers are influenced to act in like manner.

  • Mission – “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…” Matthew 28: 19- 20

…a conscious effort by every member to establish a holy community so that every member actively pursues lost people in order to bring them into the household of faith.
